2022 Chevrolet Bolt vs 2022 Hyundai IONIQ5: Nothing Replaces Experience
January 18 2022,
Electric vehicles are beginning to multiply on the market and the year 2022 will allow us to discover several of them, starting with the Hyundai IONIQ 5 which makes its debut this year. As a consumer, it can be tempting to opt for novelty, but this can hide certain pitfalls.
Here is why the new Chevrolet Bolt, renewed for 2022, remains a better option.
Acquisition cost
First, there is the question of price. For its second lap on the market, the Chevrolet Bolt is benefiting from a significant price drop. So much so that it now comes in at around $5,000 less than the base version of the IONIQ 5. That's huge.
Worse, when you outfit an IONIQ 5 a bit, the bill quickly escalates to the point where it can approach $60,000. So, depending on the equipment you want to find on board your vehicle, the difference could be even greater.
Pay attention to appearances
Inside, slipping into an IONIQ 5, we are charmed by the futuristic presentation. However, it remains quite simple and aesthetically, it is basic with this board composed of screens.
The Bolt offers a more conventional and certainly prettier dashboard. Better still, it even offers equipment that should normally be part of the IONIQ 5's equipment, i.e. wireless connection to the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto applications. However, this is not the case, which is a disappointment on the side of Hyundai.
This is why you should never trust appearances.
The experience
The arrival of new vehicles equipped with new technologies means that glitches may be encountered. This was the case at Chevrolet and Hyundai where recalls marked the Bolt and Kona models. This is normal and we are working everywhere to improve things.
This is why the arrival of a new car like the IONIQ 5 should encourage caution, because we do not know what this model will hold for us.
And the problems that the Bolt has experienced recently? Precisely, the problems coming from the battery supplier have been identified and resolved. It is therefore a proven model that is ready to serve you. With the IONIQ 5, this cannot be guaranteed.
Hyundai's new model might turn out to be interesting, but like an uncooked dish, it's not done yet. With the Chevrolet Bolt, you are entitled to a proven, ready-to-use recipe.
