2024 Chevrolet Trax: Back and Completely Transformed
October 12 2022, guideautoweb.com
After a one-model-year hiatus, the Chevrolet Trax will return for 2024 with a completely redesigned new generation that's much more likely to appeal to today's young drivers for whom style and technology matter a lot.
It will therefore resume its position as Chevrolet's entry-level crossover, below the Trailblazer. According to the company, there is still room for two models in the small utility segment, which is expected to grow by another 32% in the next five years according to its projections.
Chevrolet even expects the Trax to become the brand's third-biggest seller behind the Silverado and Equinox. One good reason: the price. In Canada, we are talking about a range that will start at $24,049 including freight and delivery charges. In these times of inflation, here is good news!

Only the name does not change
As you can see, the design changes completely. The 2024 Trax is longer (+279mm), lower and wider (+51mm) than the outgoing generation, with a distinctly more modern and athletic look. The inspiration comes from the Blazer, especially the front and the light elements.
17-inch to 19-inch wheels are available, and each version gets a different treatment. The LS and LT are more rudimentary, while the 1RS and 2RS (in red on the images) are more sporty. As for the new ACTIV version (in green), it is characterized by chrome accents, exclusive black wheels and a rear skid plate.

On board, the wheelbase increased by 152 mm and the increased width translate into more generous space, including 76 mm extra for the legs in the rear seats. The volume of the trunk increases by almost 12% and is close to 600 litres. The focal point of the cabin is of course the front layout, where an 8- or 11-inch driver-facing touchscreen center display joins an 8-inch digital instrument cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration is wireless.
Again, each version is different. For example, the Trax 2RS packs red accents and a flat-bottomed racing-inspired steering wheel, while the Trax ACTIV stands out with Evotex fabric seats with yellow accents.

Two-wheel drive only
The disappointment for many will come from the absence of all-wheel drive, unlike the old model and the Trailblazer. The new Chevrolet Trax 2024 indeed opts for traction only, which also explains its lower price. It will therefore compete with a Nissan Kicks or a Kia Soul, for example.
Under the hood, the 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine has been replaced with GM's turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder, which develops 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The latter hardly impresses us in the Trailblazer, but in a slightly lighter vehicle like the Trax, it might go better. Instead of a CVT, the six-speed automatic is back, except engineers have upgraded it for quicker acceleration and lower fuel consumption (official ratings coming soon).

We should also mention the series of six active safety devices included in all versions, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keeping assistance with deflection alert, automatic high beams and following distance indicator.
Produced in South Korea, the 2024 Chevrolet Trax will go on sale in the spring of 2023. Equipment details for the Canadian market will be announced by then.
