Chevrolet Silverado: to choose the 2021 or the 2022 model?
December 15 2021,
A few weeks ago, Chevrolet announced a series of changes that would benefit its Silverado pickup truck for 2022. The model is expected in the first months of 2022, possibly with the arrival of spring.
As a buyer, of course, you have two choices; go for a 2021 model that you can get quickly or wait for a 2022 version to enjoy the planned improvements.
Is it worth the wait? Yes, but only if you want to get your hands on the revamped version because you are interested in one of its elements. Otherwise, you can go right now with a 2021 model, because essentially, we are talking about the same van with the same mechanics.
So here's what's new for 2022, which will give you an idea if you have to wait or do it right now.
A more luxurious version
If you're looking for a pickup truck for work first and foremost, one year the other is going to satisfy you. However, if you are looking for a variant offering great luxury, the year 2022 will be interesting, as it will see the arrival of a High Country version which will push luxury to another level with better materials. selected, woodwork, as well as a richer presentation, in particular with a new central console sporting a screen of 13.4 inches. The instrument cluster of this version will also be all digital for a greater sense of richness.
In addition, if you want to take advantage of the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system, it will be better to wait for the High Country 2022 version which will offer it. If that's not an item you're looking for, a 2021 model will get the job done.
Off-road driving
If you don’t indulge in off-road driving, you don’t have to wait for a 2022 model to be happy. However, if this is part of your weekly activities, then your patience will be rewarded, as the new year will see a ZR2 version appear within the range. This one will benefit from a host of changes such as a suspension raised by 2.5 inches, a bumper offering an angle of attack of 31.8 degrees, springs calibrated for this version, Multimatic shocks that adapt to the types of surfaces encountered in no time at all, in short, of a beast that is ready to think outside the box.
Two engines to watch
Finally, depending on the type of engine you are interested in for your Silverado, you might have to wait. See, two of them are enjoying some noticeable improvements for the new year. This is the case of the Duramax Diesel engine, a 3-liter turbo 6-cylinder engine which sees its towing capacity increase by 4,000 pounds to reach 13,300 in 2022. This was all made possible thanks to adjustments made to the chassis, adjustments that allow you to take advantage of the towing package with this mechanism.
Also, the turbocharged 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine got reworked, so torque jumped 80% from 348 to 420 lb-ft.
Otherwise, the other mechanics are the same.
So it's a more complete Silverado coming in for 2022, but if nothing new from it strikes you, you could very well go with a 2021 model.
