Electric Chevrolet Silverado will have over 640 km of range

General Motors made a double announcement on April 6 regarding its new Detroit-Hamtramck electric vehicle plant, dubbed Factory ZERO.
Unsurprisingly, we learn that the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV unveiled this weekend will be manufactured there. Production is set to begin early in 2023, compared to late 2021 for the pickup truck of the same name.
On the other hand, GM has confirmed the entry into the scene of an electric Chevrolet Silverado, also assembled Factory ZERO. It just remains to be seen from when.
The model, which was glimpsed as a very preliminary concept during a company presentation in November, is expected to make its official debut later this year.
Although Chevrolet uses the name Silverado, understand that this electric pickup won't have much to do with the conventional version. It will be a product designed and developed from A to Z as an electric vehicle, naturally using GM's Ultium technology platform and battery.
As promised last year, it will be possible to cover over 640 kilometers with the electric Silverado. In the case of the GMC Hummer EV, let us remember, we are talking about 560 kilometers. This range should only be surpassed by the Tesla Cybertruck which, in its three-motor configuration, will be able to reach 800 kilometers or more.
GM finally mentions that there will be models intended for both individuals and fleet managers. The manufacturer anticipates strong demand. The other details will of course be announced during the official unveiling.
"Chevrolet will bring everything loyal Silverado buyers love - and more - into an electric pickup truck that will delight both our repeat and business customers," said Mark Reuss, president of GM.
