The Car Guide's 2021 Best Buys: GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe
February 01 2021, Le Guide de l'auto
As every year, The Auto Guide publishes its best buys in all categories of vehicles.
In the full-size SUV segment, it's an American trio that tied for the top of the podium. Three cousins signed General Motors who share their platform and their mechanics: the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, as well as the GMC Yukon.

These three models are completely renewed for 2021 and can now count on a wide range of engines. The first two are gasoline V8s, which are found in many vehicles in the GM lineup. They have a displacement of 5.3 liters (355 horsepower) and 6.2 liters (420 horsepower). But the main novelty for the 2021 model year is the arrival of a diesel engine. This 3.0-liter 6-cylinder has a setback of 277 horsepower but high torque, similar to that of the 6.2-liter V8.

Well-built, spacious and fun to drive, all three vehicles offer dynamic handling at the top of their class. And for those who wish, GM also markets the Z71 and AT4 versions, more geared towards off-road driving.
The other steps of the podium
Behind this first trio is the Ford Expedition, which does not offer the same diversity in terms of engines. No V8 engine, yet popular with buyers, but a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 available in two different versions (375 or 400 horsepower). The ride is comfortable, but the dynamic handling does not match its higher ranked competitors.
Third place goes to the Toyota Sequoia, which is struggling more and more to hide its age, and which stands out above all for its solidity, off-road capabilities and great reliability. On the other hand, its dated interior and its high fuel consumption do not work in its favor.
