2021 Chevrolet Silverado vs 2021 Ford F-150: watch out for appearances
June 09 2021,
The Ford F-150 has been North America's best-selling pickup truck for ages. It makes it seem like it's the best because more people choose it. Warning. While it is true that it sells the most, the gap is minimal between it and the TWO models offered by General Motors; the Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra.
And this attention to appearances, you have to pay attention to it everywhere. Here are a few examples where you might think the Ford F-150 has an advantage over the Chevrolet Silverado, but in reality the opposite is happening.
Aluminum
Aluminum is an extraordinary material. The fact that it is lighter than steel and does not rust is of course no stranger to this. This is why Ford speaks so highly of it, when she decided in the mid-2015s to turn to this solution for the design of her pickup truck.
This is good, but it is wrong to believe that aluminum only brings benefits. In the event of breakage or repairs to be made to the body, it is not that simple. And that's not to mention the costs. At Chevrolet, they decided to limit the use of aluminum to just a few items, such as the doors and the hood. It’s called good management.
Towing
Ford proclaims from the rooftops that its F-150 is best-in-class when it comes to towing capacity. That's not wrong, but when we talk about 200 or 300 pound differences over 10,000 pounds, it's negligible. Where it really matters is with the tools that are accessible for towing. Here, the Chevrolet Silverado has everything to teach the F-150 a lesson, not least with its camera system that allows you to closely monitor everything from docking to driving. You can even see behind the trailer while driving, as well as inside it when stopping for a break, to see if the equipment you are carrying is safe.
Engines
Ford engines often make the headlines, perhaps because they have famous names like EcoBoost or Coyote (5-liter V8). In this regard, GM has nothing to envy Ford. It also offers a more powerful V8, the 6.2-liter which delivers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. As for its 5.3-liter V8, it is the most economical 8-cylinder in the class. Better still, when you take a look at the Diesel offering, Chevrolet comes out on top, both at the pump and when it comes to horsepower.
And reliability also has a name: Chevrolet.
As you can see, the Silverado really has nothing to envy its rival.
