Despite its age and its mechanical shortcomings, the Yukon impressed us during the RPM comparison match in 2018 against the Ford Expedition. With the GMC Yukon 2021, we have to believe that GM is listening to us; it retains what has been acquired and it transforms almost everything that had displeased us.
GMC reviews the appearance of the Yukon, taking care to incorporate all of the brand's modern features. The body is completely redesigned. The front remains the most striking section of the vehicle. Let's say the word massive applies. The already imposing grille gains volume to cover almost the entire front part. Depending on the version, there is a variation, but the Denali offers a superior presentation with a most elegant mesh. We did not choose traditional chrome, we favor a finish that echoes the appearance of brushed aluminum, everywhere in the Yukon. The effect remains chic without falling into the ostentatious. The headlights are updated and feature an LED C for daytime running lights. All lighting elements are LED and powerful. Same approach for the fog lights at the bottom of the body.
In profile, the Yukon abandons its endless horizontal line for a more assertive look. Aluminum is proposed for the window framing, but its composition is unstructured, negating part of the length effect. There are also lighted self-deploying running boards and 22-inch rims on the test version. For the rear, the Terrain and Acadia affiliation is confirmed with an illumination strip that stretches across the tailgate. Again, everything is LED. Lower down, 4 chrome exhaust pipes set the tone for performance. A practical detail, a projection of the GMC logo on the ground tells us where to set foot for the electric tailgate opening.
We appreciate the conservatism of the approach. We notice an improvement in the quality of the assembly and the accuracy of the panel fit. It’s more worthy of the price than you ask for.
