Chevrolet Colorado: the secret is under the hood

What often makes a pickup truck successful is its versatility. In the case of Chevrolet's Colorado model, some of that versatility comes through what's under the hood. There, three engines are fighting to attract customers who really benefit from an interesting choice. Let's see what each brings to the model.

Before proceeding, it is important to note that when considering the different possible configurations for the body, the cog (4x2 and 4x4) and the proposed versions (WT, LT, Z71 and ZR2), we end up with 18 possible models. . Some combinations may be impossible.

1 - 4-cylinder 2.5 liters

With the basic engine, you have everything you need for everyday travel and light work. This mechanism offers a cavalry of 200 horsepower (6,300 rpm) and 191 lb-ft of torque (4,400 rpm), the necessary to take advantage of a good capacity (3,500 pounds for loading) and consumption. of reasonable gasoline, an average of 10.8 liters per 100 kilometers (11.3 liters with 4x4 models).

A six-speed automatic transmission is deployed to work with this engine.

2 - 4-cylinder 2.8-liter turbodiesel

If you have greater towing needs, or if you drive a lot, the diesel engine can quickly become your best ally. First of all, in terms of its towing capacity, it's 7,600 or 7,700 pounds, depending on the version. This is ample for the majority of tasks. This skill is attributable to the 186 horsepower (3,400 rpm), but mostly the 369 pound-feet of torque (2,000 rpm) that are at your disposal.

On the transmission side, there is also a six-speed automatic gearbox at the service of this engine. At the pump, you get by with an average of 10.1 liters per 100 kilometers with two-wheel drive models, 10.6 liters with those with four wheels in action.

3 - 3.6 liter V6

Finally, you can always opt for a Colorado equipped with a conventional V6 engine. With a displacement of 3.6 liters, the latter offers 308 horsepower (6,800 rpm) and 275 pound-feet of torque (4,000 rpm), making towing up to 7,000 pounds possible. Consumption with this organ between the front wheels is 11.7 liters per 100 kilometers with the 4x2 models, 12.2 liters with the 4x4 versions.

An eight-speed automatic transmission is reserved for this V6.
