Chevrolet Silverado 2022: Major Changes for the Next Year
September 22 2021,
Over the past few days, Chevrolet has been telling us about the changes it is making to its Silverado pickup for 2022. The division's best-selling model is getting major changes for the new year, so much so that while we'll admit it, it is partly transformed to seduce us more.
Here is roughly what has been announced about it.
A more luxurious model
If the Chevrolet Silverado had one weakness vis-à-vis its competitors, it's up to its interior. The problem is, rivals hit hard with very rich cocoons. Chevrolet is therefore making the necessary corrections, first on the High Country version with regard to the quality of the materials (more luxurious and better chosen, presence of woodwork, etc.).
However, across the range, except with the basic versions intended for work, we are also entitled to alterations to the presentation of the dashboard. Again, the goal is the same; enhance quality. For example, at the center console, we now discover a 13.4-inch screen, the new benchmark in the niche. Likewise, another screen is added, this time in front of the driver to offer him a cluster of instruments with digital display. And when you are in the presence of such a tool, you benefit from a customizable approach, which adds to the experience of owning the vehicle.
Super Cruise
Also with the High Country model, the Silverado will be entitled to a first, the semi-autonomous Super Cruise system that was developed by Cadillac. This is in its second generation and has more features than ever before. For example, it can operate on approximately 320,000 km of highways across the United States and Canada. It is also able to make lane changes independently and can even be activated when a trailer is hitched. The only limitation at this time, automated lane change is not possible when a load is pulled.
A ZR2 version
The arrival of a ZR2 version is the big news for 2022. If this alphanumeric designation is familiar to you, you are not making a mistake; it has been available for several years with the Colorado pickup truck.
What is extraordinary about a model taking advantage of the ZR2 badge is that its off-road capabilities are enhanced tenfold thanks to a series of modifications aimed at this goal. We are talking about a suspension lift (2.5 inches), a front bumper that allows an angle of attack of 31.8 degrees, specifically calibrated springs, Multimatic shock absorbers which are of a Incredible smoothness and lightning-fast response to changes in the surface, as well as an all-terrain mode that makes extreme riding easier off the beaten track.
Two improved mechanics
Chevrolet is still working on improving the mechanics of its Silverado and for 2022, two are benefiting from interesting revisions. First, models equipped with the Duramax Diesel engine (3.0-liter 6-cylinder) saw their towing capacity increase by 4,000 pounds to 13,300 pounds. This has become a possibility due to chassis height adjustments, changes that allow the Max tow package to be paired with these models.
Chevrolet has also reworked its 2.7-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine. Structural elements of the latter were revised and allowed a significant improvement in torque from 348 to 420 lb-ft, according to Chevrolet calculations. We are talking about an 80% gain.
The model is also going to get more standard safety features for 2022. Truly, it's a greatly improved Silverado that's going to hit dealerships in the early months of 2022.
