GM's teen driver function: with your kids on the road

Every parent dreads or nervously anticipates the day their teenager will ask them to borrow the family car. It's not that he doesn't want to lend it to her, but he's just nervous to see his kid leave unsupervised behind the wheel of an inexperienced vehicle.

Besides, who wasn't young and didn't do a bit of speed behind the wheel of his parents' car. That's why GM has designed an app that allows parents to monitor their teen's driving behavior while behind the wheel of their car.

Identification

First, it is necessary to assign a vehicle key to your child. The latter will first have been identified and linked to the teen driver function.

Once this step is completed, here are some elements that the system allows to monitor. Note that some functions may not apply depending on your vehicle's equipment.

1 - Buckling of the belt

Vehicle safety begins with the seat belt fastening. Many teens are delinquent in this regard. This is why the app allows the transmission to be prevented from engaging if the front seat belts are not fastened. It is also possible to prevent the radio from working if you are not strapped to the front.

2 - Volume limit

By the way, remember your younger years, we loved driving with the music blaring on board. Knowing how much of a distraction it can be, the Teen Driver feature lets you limit the volume of the audio system so your youngster can concentrate on the road.

3 - speed

As a parent, we always fear that our young people have their foot a little too heavy on the accelerator. We can have an eye on the thing thanks to two functions. One that sends alerts to the driver if he exceeds a predetermined speed (between 65 km / h and 120 km / h). Then, it is also possible to limit the maximum speed of the vehicle to 136 km / h). It's still fast, but you will know that your youngster will never be able to reach speeds that will never forgive… never.

4 - acceleration

When you're young and driving for the first time, it's always nice to see what's hiding under the hood when you fully press the accelerator. You won't be able to stop your youngster from doing this, but you can ask the engine to limit the power delivery. Your youngster will feel like half the hair is gone for a walk rather than giving him the sensations he is looking for.

5 - The detailed report

As a parent, the most interesting function remains the detailed report that the vehicle provides you on your child's driving. This lets you know, for example, if speed alerts have been generated, if maximum speed has been reached, if the accelerator has been put to the floor, etc. Very interesting… and instructive for the rest of the matter.
