The arrival of the Chevrolet Equinox EV postponed for several months

Chevrolet Equinox EV is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated electric vehicles, particularly because of the base price of less than $40,000 Canadian that was mentioned during its unveiling last year. The first units were to enter production this fall at the Ramos Arizpe Mexican factory, but ultimately, consumers will have to wait a little longer.
Presenting its third quarter financial results on Tuesday, the manufacturer General Motors announced that the Equinox EV will likely be delayed by “several months” while it makes improvements and adjusts to new market constraints.
At the same time, GM is abandoning its goal of manufacturing 400,000 electric vehicles by mid-2024, a target reiterated by CEO Mary Barra this summer. That was, of course, before the American Auto Workers Union (UAW) went on strike on September 15. GM says it has lost more than $1 billion so far and expects to lose more than $250 million with each new week of strike action.
Also remember that production of the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV pickup trucks at the Orion, Michigan plant was recently pushed back to the end of 2025 . The site is currently completing the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV , and will subsequently be renovated and retooled.
Coming back to the Equinox EV, in addition to its delayed arrival, the fear is that prices will be higher than expected. Moreover, a petition was launched in the United States last month for GM to commit not to give up on affordable electric vehicles, including the Equinox EV. We saw what happens with the Chevrolet Blazer EV : the company decided not to offer the entry-level 1LT front-wheel drive version, thus increasing the base price of the vehicle.
